Formational – Learn and Follow

Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will make you fishers of men (and women). Matthew 4:19 (NIV)
…teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.                     
Matthew 28:20.

1.  Our church has a class in which members develop their personal testimony and learn how to begin spiritual conversations?
2.  Our church has a class in which new believers are taught the basics of the Christian Faith?
3.  Our church has a process by which members list the names of unchurched friends and begin praying for their salvation?
4.  Our church has a means by which members are taught to verbalize their faith and are offered opportunities to share their personal stories of faith?
5.  Our church has at least one program that is aimed at helping new people grow in their faith and knowledge of God’s Word?
6.  Are our people ready to share their faith?  Are they even thinking about it?
7.  Are there regular programs for those who do not know Jesus yet?
8.  Our church encourages spiritual companionship.
9.  Our church serves side-by-side in our community and the world.
10.  Our church regularly explores spiritual practices.
11.  Our church encourages and affirms everyone as full participants in the body including women and children, youth and the disabled.
12.  Our church is concerned with the spiritual, physical, emotional and social needs of every person both inside and outside the church.
13.  Our church regularly celebrates God through worship, the sacraments, the word, and a life of service and witness.

Attractional – Come and See
But if an unbeliever or an inquirer comes in while everyone is prophesying, they are convicted of sin and are brought under judgment by all, 25 as the secrets of their hearts are laid bare. So they will fall down and worship God, exclaiming, “God is really among you!”                                   
I Corinthians 14:24-25

Philip found Nathanael and told him, “We have found the one Moses wrote about in the Law, and about whom the prophets also wrote—Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.” “Nazareth! Can anything good come from there?” Nathanael asked.  “Come and see,” said Philip.
John 1:45,46

1.  Our church has a planned way to help visitors find their way around our church?
2.  Our church has a course whereby new people are orientated to our church.
3.  Our church has at least four events each year targeted specifically to unchurched people?
4.  Our church has a way of welcoming visitors which does not embarrass them?
5.  Our church is intentional when preparing worship so as not to use exclusive language a visitor would not understand.
6.  How trusting are our people of what they believe their friends would experience on a Sunday morning?
7.  What would our church feel like for a visitor?
8.  How do we communicate life change in inspiring ways?
9.  What are some natural momentum points in the ministry year?  How could we use them to reach out to those who don’t know Jesus?

Relational – Connect and Cultivate
I no longer call you servants, because servants do not know their master’s business.  Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.  John 15:15                
The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘Here is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.’ But wisdom is proved right by her actions.”  Matthew 11:19

1.  Do our people have friends to invite to church?
2.  Our church has a way to support its people in developing friendships with the unchurched.
3.  Our church has at least one ministry that trains members to be assertive in sharing their faith?
4.  Who are your friends? 
5.  Do you have non-Christian friends?
6.  Do you have hobbies, interest with those outside the church.
7.  How would you go about developing friends with those who do not follow Jesus?
8.  Do you spend a majority of your free time with Christians?
9.  Would you invite your non-Christian friends to church?  Why or why not?

Incarnational – Go and Serve
Again Jesus said, “Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.”                                                                     
John 20:21

And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’       
Matthew 22:39

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,                       
Matthew 28:19

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” 
Acts 1:8

1.  Our church is known for at least one ministry in our community?
2.  Our church has at least one ministry which directly touches a felt need of unchurched people in our community?
3.  How is our church being the church in the community?
4.  Our church is in touch with our surrounding community and finding effective ways to reach people with the gospel in our community.
5.  How do people know about our church?
6.  Do people see that our church is making a difference in the world?
7.  Are we willing to send people from our church to plant a new church as a new mission outpost?
